The Pink Cucumber, West Sacramento 1940s
Product Description
Yes, you can laugh at this 1940s die-cut menu for The Pink Cucumber, a restaurant in West Sacramento, California.
This drive-in was open 24 hours a day and served everything from chili beans for 25c to oyster cocktails for 45c and abalone steak sandwiches for 75c.
It was located one mile west of Tower Bridge, erected in 1935, on a stretch of road known as Motel Row. Nearby was the Hawaiian Hut, an early Tiki bar and restaurant.
It was also next door to a Chevron truck terminal and Warner Tire Co, so presumably in those pre-freeway days, the entire area was a place for drivers of all types to stop off, eat and sleep.
There’s not much else known about The Pink Cucumber, but if we find more information we will update.
For those of us still wondering about the name, a pink cucumber is the common name for the sea cucumber Holothuria edulis, found in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean.
Each order includes a print of the interior menu.
All printed in USA.
