Mercedes Room, Bahia Resort Hotel, San Diego 1980s
Product Description
This intriguing menu showing different Mercedes Benz logos on the cover is from the early days of the iconic Bahia Resort Hotel located on beautiful Mission Bay in San Diego, California.
Hotel founders William and Anne Evans took a leap of faith in the early 1950s when they leased a 14-acre plot offered by the city along the 27-mile stretch of shoreline.
At the time, the area was a series of squalid and unattractive mudflats, but the young couple’s vision and entrepreneurship paid off and by 1953, the hotel’s first 52 units were open to vacationers.
Today, the Bahia Resort Hotel has 313 rooms which include beachfront cottages, studios with panoramic views and spacious bayside suites, and is an idyllic and popular Californian beachside getaway.
A revered local businesswoman, Anne Evans is chairwoman emeritus of the Evans Hotel Group and her children run the business –William Evans died in 1984. The company also operates the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in Pacific Beach – bought in 1958 – and The Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla.
The Mercedes Room was an event space at the Bahia that could incorporate large numbers of diners, with room for entertainment like dancing, and we believe this menu dates from the 1980s.
Each order includes a print of the interior menu.
