Stanley Stubenberg was born in Hawaii on December 8 1925 and was a highly regarded commercial artist who created illustrations for menu covers that are still wonderfully fresh and charming today. He created many illustrated menus for the Hilton Hawaiian Village as well as the Reef Hotel and The Tropics.
Stanley Stubenberg died in September 2001 on the island of St Croix aged 79.
The Hawaiian Village was originally developed in 1955 as the Kaiser Hawaiian Village Hotel by Industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. Conrad Hilton purchased the hotel in January 1961 for $21.5 million. It played host to Elvis Presley in March, 1961, when he came to Honolulu to perform a benefit concert for the USS Arizona Memorial. Hilton Hawaiian Village has been featured in multiple television shows, including Hawaiian Eye, Wheel of Fortune, Baywatch Hawaii, Magnum P.I., and Hawaii Five-0.
