Au Chien Qui Fume, Paris 1950s
Product Description
This charming 1950s advertising card comes from the Parisian restaurant Au Chien Qui Fume, which was opened in 1740 as a small inn catering to the market porters of Les Halles in the center of Paris. In 1920 a new owner arrived and brought his dogs to the restaurant… a cigar-smoking poodle and a pipe-smoking terrier. Hence the restaurant’s name and décor – there are many pictures and paintings of smoking dogs.
The card advertises dine-and-dance evenings and inside there is a drawing of a chic Parisian couple sitting at a banquette in their evening finery. “This is the rendezvous for everyone who loves gaiety, good food, old wines and champagne,” it says in the interior.
It also notes that the orchestra plays from midnight to 6am - obviously a fun place to be back in the 1950s.
