With 28 different ways to cook Dover sole, eleven ways to consume lobster and many other fish specialities, this menu from Wheeler's of Old Compton Street in London is a piscatarian's dream. The interior of this beautifully illustrated menu features a mermaid waitress and a fiendish and bearded merman chef while the front cover is stylishly minimal. Wheeler's Oyster Bar was established in Whitstable, a lovely small fishing town on the Kent coast, in 1856 by Richard Leggy Wheeler, a master mariner. In 1929, This Wheeler's Restaurant was opened in Old Compton Street in London and was the flagship for a chain of restaurants that has since closed down. The original Wheeler's Oyster Bar in Whitstable, still proudly serving fish dishes some 157 years after its birth, remains open. Marco Pierre White and Sir Rocco Forte have opened up Wheeler's of St James's in London, claiming to be reviving "the world's oldest and finest fish restaurant".
