Beer and cocktails began to be sold after the end of Prohibition in 1933.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe restaurateur, who acquired the ironic nickname ‘Tiny’ because he stood at 6ft 4in and weighed over 300 pounds, also opened a Tiny’s drive-in in San Jose and a Tiny’s restaurant in Oakland.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis marvelous menu image is from another establishment he opened - Tiny’s Embassy Club in San Francisco.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLocated at Fisherman's Wharf, this supper club and nightlife venue hosted dinner dances, musical performances and reviews during the 1930s and 1940s. The glamorous showgirls who performed were wittily called ‘Embassy Eyefuls.’\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCustomers were entreated with the words: Please, don’t be shy. Tonight is yours!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBeautiful girls will dance for you, golden voices will sing for you… anything, everything you may want shall be yours…merely to command.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe orchestra leader is your servant of melody. The bartender is your servant of liquor. The waiter is your servant of food. Tonight you are a King. Tonight you are a Queen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1948, the revered restaurateur came south and launched Biff's Coffee Shops (named after his son, William ‘Biff’ Naylor), followed shortly by the launch of the famous Tiny Naylor's brand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRenowned for their futuristic, spaceship-like cantilevers and roller-skating carhops, these drive-ins (such as the original 1949 Hollywood location at Sunset and La Brea) were designed by noted mid-century architect Douglas Honnold.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt their peak, over 40 Biff's and Tiny Naylor's locations operated across Los Angeles and Orange Counties before the chain closed in the 1980s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe’re not sure when Tiny’s Embassy Club closed but guess it would have been in the late 1940s.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGallery quality Giclée print on natural white, matte, 100% cotton rag, acid and lignin free archival paper using Epson Ultrachrome HD archival inks.
