Product Description

This stylish menu cover was for The Dock restaurant in Tiburon, located next to the ferry dock, and with breathtaking views of the Bay and the San Francisco skyline.

According to Marin Independent Journal, the restaurant was described as ‘an expense account’ kind of place. It opened in 1961 and was built by San Francisco tycoon and Tiburon developer Fred G. Zelinsky (1894-1982).

Zelinksy, owner of a paint company, and his wife Juanita lived in San Francisco but loved Tiburon and had a weekend residence there. In the 1950s, they were guiding lights in the building of Tiburon’s downtown area, making sure that it was developed harmoniously with its surroundings.

This waterfront restaurant with ‘million-dollar views’ could be approached by boat or car and no doubt customers polished off many cocktails while looking at the amazing views.

In the 1970s, the location was owned by businessman James Quinlivan and operated by the Pasquel family for 18 years. Their good food and hospitality ensured that it was one of the town’s busiest restaurants.

The dock was sold in 1988 and became Mr Q’s and the Water’s Edge Hotel now occupies this site.

This menu is dated 1962 and the artist’s name is inscribed faibish. We believe this was Helen Faibish (1933-2019) who owned a graphic design studio in San Francisco before becoming a renowned ceramicist whose work was sold in shops all over the world.
