Product Description
The Blue Ox was a small chain of three restaurants in California, owned by Vic and Carlo Bottiani. Its Goleta branch opened in 1966, with a building designed by Louis Mazzetti to accommodate the town’s famous Witness Tree – a large sycamore tree, which is something of a landmark.
The restaurant made a name for itself as the home of seriously large steaks and Vegas-style presentation – fitting, given it was managed by Joe Guglimino, formerly of the Tropicana hotel and casino.
We don’t know much about the Blue Ox locations in Redding and Costa Mesa. Sadly the Goleta branch closed in the early 1980s, becoming The Elegant Farmer, then a Sizzler, and now an events centre. The Witness Tree still stands, though.
