The Barrels, Kalamazoo, 1930s
Product Description
The Barrels was a wonderful American diner that served breakfast and lunch in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. Opened in 1939 its cheerful waitresses served generations of hungry diners for many decades. This 1939/1940 menu listed home-cooked dishes and hamburgers were prepared fresh every hour using a meat grinder. The menu's wonderful graphics and illustrations were truly evocative of the era. Look closely and see the care and effort taken by the artist. Like many American diners, The Barrels was a casualty of modern tastes and seems to have closed in 1948.
