Skychefs Airport Bar 1957
Product Description
America was experiencing a post-war boom in creative art and design when this elegant menu cover for a Skychefs airport bar was created in 1957.
Young people were rejecting the traditional tastes of their parents for images that were fresh and contemporary, and this striking image perfectly fit the changing aesthetic with its muted colors and modernist design.
“Flight 507 – On Arrival. April 1957” is written on the inside.
This was a month after the Boeing 367-80 or Dash 80, which was developed into the 707 airliner, set a new speed record for flying nonstop from Seattle to Baltimore in 3 hours 48 minutes at an average speed of 612 mph.
The age of commercial air travel was well under way!
Sky Chefs was founded by American Airlines in Texas in 1942 and remains the world’s oldest independent caterer, still serving airlines passengers in 53 countries.
