Porky's, St Petersburg 1946
Product Description
It would have been hard to miss Porky’s restaurant in St Petersburg, Florida, because a giant neon pig was erected on the roof and could be seen for miles around. This menu is dated 1946 and is signed by the owner, whose nickname was Porky. We have yet to find out his real name but the menu says Porky’s, next to the dog track on Sandy Boulevard, was a Frank G Horvath enterprise. The restaurant served early evening dinner-plate specials that included frogs’ legs, broiled lobsters and lamb chops and went a la carte after 10pm. A lot of effort went into the menu, with the interior decorated with dancing pigs and a cheerful sign saying Porky’s Fun Club – the Brightest Spot in Town.
