Le Caprice, London, 1973
Product Description
The legendary London restaurant Le Caprice was opened in 1947 by Mario Gallati who launched another eatery, The Ivy, some 30 years before. This 1973 menu, in deep colors of mauve and gold, is written in French and reflects the culinary fashion of the time. The menu changed to British "comfort food" in 1981 when it was bought by British restaurateurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, who also took over The Ivy. Many celebrities have dined in Le Caprice's art deco dining room but the most famous was the late Princess Diana, who patronized the place in the eighties. "She was the most charming lady, so charismatic," maitre d' Jesus Adorno told The London Evening Standard . "If you addressed her, you always got a smile. She would always have the same corner table." On the evening after she died her table was kept empty, with a single candle burning as a tribute.
