This delightful 1950s/60s drinks menu is from the Hawaiian Village hotel and certainly sums up the delights of Waikiki Beach, Honolulu. During this era, tourism to Hawaii was just beginning and many Americans would have been visiting for the first time.
Hawaiian Village was originally developed in 1955 as the Kaiser Hawaiian Village Hotel by Industrialist Henry J. Kaiser.
Conrad Hilton purchased the hotel in January 1961 for $21.5 million.
It played host to Elvis Presley in March, 1961, when he came to Honolulu to perform a benefit concert for the USS Arizona Memorial.
Hilton Hawaiian Village has been featured in multiple television shows, including Hawaiian Eye, Wheel of Fortune, Baywatch Hawaii, Magnum P.I., and Hawaii Five-0.
The range of drinks on offer included a Mai Tai for $1.50 and the ‘ large and potent’ Ale Ale Kai Punch for $1.75.
