Product Description

The Devon Coast Country Club was a sports-orientated holiday camp in Paignton, a seaside town in Devon, England.
It opened in the 1930s and holidaymakers were accommodated in a series of wooden chalets with an open-air swimming pool. We found a Facebook comment from someone who remembers going there as a child. She used one word to describe the pool during a typical British summer – ‘FREEZING! ‘
There was a bowling green and other leisure facilities but sailing, canoeing, kayaking and surfing were the most popular sports practiced in this beautiful region of England.
During the Second World War the club was closed and housed prisoners of war.
Families returned to spend holidays at the camp in the 50s. This menu from the on-site dining room is dated 1954.
The DCCC was bought by Ladbroke’s Holidays in the 1970s. Then Shearing Coach Holidays bought it but closed the camp in 1994.
The location is now a housing estate.
