Copa Room Wine List Cover, The Sands Hotel, Las Vegas Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin, 1960s
Product Description
Oh to have been in the audience at The Copa Room in Las Vegas when Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were on stage.
As the legendary entertainers went through their repertoire, fans sat ringside in an intimate nightclub atmosphere, sipping cocktails and smoking cigarettes.
The design of the spare and elegant wine list cover was approved by Sinatra who didn't like "fussy stuff."
Sinatra began performing in Las Vegas in 1951, when his career was on the rocks, and only the mob-owned casinos would have him. At the time, there were only seven hotels on the Strip.
The Sands played host to Frank Sinatra and the ‘Rat Pack’ of Joey Bishop, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Dean Martin in a series of legendary gigs known as the Summit. These took place in January and February 1960. In 1966, aged 50, he recorded “Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie and his Orchestra”, Arranged and conducted by Quincy Jones. The album captures the absolute essence of Frank Sinatra in his ‘room’ in his ‘town’… in fact he owned 2% of The Sands so in a sense it really was his. Sinatra’s final performance in Vegas was at the MGM Grand on May 29, 1994.
