Product Description

This swashbuckling lady pirate was on the front cover of the wine and drinks list at the Chinese Treasure Island nightclub in Washington DC.

The nightspot, on K Street near Farragut Square, opened in 1942 and seems to have been owned, or part-owned, by an entrepreneur called Bobby Wong.

It was immensely popular because of the numbers of servicemen and women passing through the nation’s capital during the years of WWII.

An advert noted:’ If you wish to (and have the stamina) you and your gal can literally dance the whole night through.’

There was room for 400 guests and the house band was Milt Davis and his orchestra.

Other Chinese-American nightclubs in the city during this era were the Casino Royal and the Lotus clubs on 14th Street.

At some point the name was shortened to the simpler Treasure Island and the nightspot closed in 1947, after which it was rechristened The Fiesta.
