Carter Hotel, Hastings NE 1940s
Product Description
These two fried eggs and a slice of bacon must have been a cheerful sight on the breakfast menu of the Carter Hotel in Nebraska. The artist has got the glossy spots on the yolk-eyes just right, along with the bacon-smile.
The Carter Hotel offered seven types of club breakfasts, ranging in price from 25c to 85c, as well as an a la carte menu.
We think this image is from the 1940s when Hastings was still a small town, with only 15,000 residents, and the Hotel Carter was one of the best places to stay.
Today, the number of residents has doubled, and it is the 8th most populous city in the state. Edwin Perkins invented the powdered, flavored drink Kool-Aid in Hastings in 1927 and the town celebrates the invention every august with the Kool-Aid days festival.
Each order includes a print of the interior menu.
