Air France In-flight Menu, 1957
Product Description
The flag carrier of France, Air France was formed in 1933.
The airline appointed its first flight attendants in 1946 and by 1957 – the date of this menu – had one of the largest commercial air fleets in the world, operating about 130 Lockheed Constellations for passenger and cargo services.
Commercial travel was still a rarity in this era and passengers who could afford to fly dressed up and were treated like royalty aboard their flights.
This menu is rather charming, showing a flight attendant serving an elegantly dressed woman – the wings on her gloves and the landscape below showing that they were airborne.
On board, cigarettes and cigars were sold – and smoked. Booze including champagne, cognac and beer could be bought.
Air France serves 29 domestic destinations and passengers and cargo services in 78 countries.
Each order includes a print of the interior menu.
All printed in USA.
