Alfred's Children's Dinner Menu, Lake George NY 1970s

Vintage children’s menus are always delightful thanks to the cute illustrations. Alfred’s is no exception with a sweet little mutt on the front cover scratching his ear.
However, the interior of this menu is interesting because of the food choices offered to kids. Lobster tail! Seafood platter with shrimp and scallops! Lamb chops! German pot roast with gravy and apple sauce!
Would children eat these meals today … we don’t think so.
Alfred’s restaurant opened in a huge Adirondack-style building in 1962, near Lake George and Glens Falls in the New York region, along route 9.
Presumably, parents were well catered for too at this roadside stop.
This 1970s menu was given to children as a souvenir, after they had finished their extravagant lunches or dinners.
Alfred’s closed in 1984 and became the Montcalm restaurant. That establishment closed in 2013.
NB: The interior menu has a pencil scrawl. A little girl called Joan has written her name - backwards.
Each order includes a print of the interior menu.
