This iconic animated character was created for the opening credits of the 1963 comedy film The Pink Panther, initially released in Italy and then in the United States.

It had a starry ensemble cast led by David Niven, Peter Sellers, Robert Wagner, Capucine and Claudia Cardinale. It followed Inspector Jacques Clouseau, played by Peter Sellers as he travels from Paris to the Italian resort town of Cortina d’Ampezzo to catch a notorious jewel thief known as ‘The Phantom, played by Niven, before he steals a priceless diamond known as "The Pink Panther".

The popularity of the film led to the Pink Panther franchise and the character itself became a global phenomenon, headlining its own cartoon shorts throughout the 1960s and 70s.

We’re assuming the owner of this Italian restaurant in Sacramento was a fan of the film and created this simple but elegant menu cover.

We can’t find any information about the Pink Panther as a restaurant and pizzeria, but the address is now the Pantera Club, a lively Mexican nightclub located in the Century Shopping Center. Pantera is Spanish for panther so the name may be a tribute to its predecessor.
