A bearded intellectual – note the pipe and the open-toed sandals – strolls nonchalantly towards The Scene Coffee House, with a girlfriend hanging on his arm. No, this wasn't San Francisco in the Sixties. It was Chevy Chase Village in Kentucky. The Scene was a hangout for students from the campus of the University of Kentucky, who obviously considered themselves super-groovy. In the interior menu, there's another comical portrait of a Beatnik type wearing sunglasses and winkle pickers alongside a hippie girlfriend. There's interesting stuff on the menu too, including a Coffee Cooler Cocktail that was made by mixing espresso and ginger ale. Maybe it tastes nicer than it sounds...
