This beautiful 1911 menu features a mermaid rising out of the ocean after she escaped being caught in a fishing net. Her silvery-green dress is made from the waves and she is holding a fish in her hand. This was a first class menu that came from the sumptuously appointed S/S George Washington built for Bremen-based North German-Lloyd. The luxury liner sailed from Europe to New York and could carry 2,900 passengers. In 1912, it passed a large iceberg south of Newfoundland and radioed a warning to other ships including The Titanic, which sank near the same location.
